The Penang International Dragon Boat Festival (PIDBF) is a fun tropical event which celebrates the dragon boat spirit of good sportsmanship, friendly competition and international camaraderie. Since 1979, teams from all over the world have participated in the festival.

The PIDBF is an official Penang State Government event which is supported by the Penang State Tourism Action Council, Tourism Malaysia, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) and the Penang Municipal Council. There are various categories of races and the festival programme includes both an opening ceremony (featuring the traditional dotting of the “dragon’s eyes” by Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon) as well as a colourful farewell party for all participants.
